I ordered some Durham organizer boxes with their cabinet, unfortunately the cabinets come like this, TWICE.fired off an email to Durham about how even Harbor Freight's quality control would laugh their heads off at Durham's Made in USA (and Mexico) quality, I decided I should take the matter into my own hands. Thanks to Enco's 30% off coupon (and ZTFab's forklift), I now have a sheet metal brake, so I whipped this up from some 22 gauge i had lying around:so I did that, X 10 and bought some drawer slides from a woodworking place (shudder):The slides are full extension and two inches deeper than the box, to allow the lid to stay openwhich is why there's two inches of empty space at the back of the cabinet.take it all apart, and give it the rattle can treatment. here it is during assembly:A couple of pictures of the finished productall steel tubings are 3/32 or 1/8, gussets and drawer slide holders are 1/8". Wood top is salvaged from a 50 year old bookshelf.
Reply:I also picked up a couple sets of those boxes when a now defunct home center was remodeling. Cabinets are beat, but the boxes are great. You did a great job with that cabinet. Not sure yet whether I like the open design or not. I see pluses and minuses to solid sides. I'm also not 100% sure about the legs sticking out front and back. I'd loose too much space that way in my shop I think..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:I figure the boxes are enclosed anyway, so I went with the open design. Since this is my first time making drawers, this is also easier If there's any problems, i can always wrap it in sheet metal later. As far as the legs sticking out there are two reasons... I left provision to add five more drawers on top (remove the wood top and weld/bolt on) and I was afraid it would tip over easily since I do plan to roll it around the garage. Whether it's overkill or not, I rather be safe than sorry.Samm, I have seen quite a bit of complaints about Durham's cabinets. I know for sure that it's the way they're packaged. The cabinet rattles around with very little support in a cardboard box that will not stand the rigors of shipping. As for the "stainless work" you're on your own, I'm not sharing my designs on that subjects anymore Forhire, they're actually full extension plus 2". I experimented with full extension slides, and that wasn't enough. The boxes are 12" deep, with 12" full extension slides, the box won't clear enough to allow the lid to open and lean back. I had to use 14" full extension slides.

But now stuff is built by folks that think they're owed something more than they are or they're wayward computer techy's that don't get why they are always told to hold the "dumb" end of the tape measure.......Parent's were right, it's MTV's fault......200amp Air Liquide MIG, Hypertherm Plasma, Harris torches, Optrel helmet, Makita angle grinders, Pre-China Delta chop saw and belt sander, Miller leathers, shop made jigs etc, North- welders backpack.
