haven't posted here in a while, Im a novice ARC welderanyway I have some repairs I want to do, nothing structural, and I guess I want to improve my technique along the wayMy problemso I guess my reading of the puddle is poor and when im welding say 3mm plate DCEN I have a habit of burning holes, I guess id like to be able to control the current by shortening the arc, but for the life of me I can't, not do I seem to be able to see a problem until its too late I would have some variation in material due to the metal having been out side in the wet and damp for a few yrsanyone got a link to any vids showing how to read the puddle ?
Reply:I don't know of any videos of "How to read the puddle" but there are lots of good welding videos that could help. Go to WeldingTipsandTricks.com there are allot of videos there. Here are a few videos off youtube.Airco Ac/Dc 300 HeliwelderMillerMatic 200 (stolen)Miller Maxstar 150STLMiller AEAD200LE (welding and generating power) Hobart MIG
Reply:So, I am no expert, but as far as videos go I like Jody's over at WeldingTipsandTricks.com and Lanse's on YouTube. I also found this article about the puddle to be really useful.Welding Tips and Trickshttp://www.weldingtipsandtricks.com/http://www.youtube.com/user/weldingtipsandtricks/videosLanse's YouTube Channelhttp://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJAFY2kKKb5sg79yld7T3hAZen and the Art of the Weld Puddlehttp://airbum.com/articles/ArticleZenWelding.htmlAlso, DSW has done a few write-ups of the puddle and always has really good advice and insight (as do several others on here). Here are a couple links to some threads:http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...t=mig%20puddlehttp://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...t=mig%20puddlehttp://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...t=mig%20puddlehttp://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...e-my-mig-beadsI wish you the best of luck. Keep us posted on how it goes.Brian
Reply:You can read it all you want..Until you actually WRITE it you will get nowhere....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Are you using a lens that is too dark? Or could you benefit from some reading glasses or a cheater lens?
Reply:Also try different hoods and lenses. You may find some give ua much better puddle view, clarity than others. Change the protective lens covers on both inside and outside regularly. Take them out and look thru them. If they are not Crystal clear it will really affect how well u see the puddleSent w/ Tapatalk using Swype, pls excuse typosTiger Sales: AHP Distributor www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P, Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.
