Reply:distilled water with some antibacterial growth inhibitor (like they put in humidifiers). Provided you don't have a chance of the water freezing. If freezing could occur use the miller fluid. Just my 2 cents. The distilled water and inhibitor is quite cheap and works just fine.
Reply:What about a "wetting" agent so the water clings to the hot torch parts, instead of skipping over them because of the radiant heat.

o a search on it. You will find a million opinions. The only one that is 100% on the money (and won't void warranty) is Miller Coolant which is 50/50 pure Ethylene Glycol (EG) and Distilled water. Look up the MSDS on it. Store bought auto AF is EG with silicates and coloring added. Apparently these additives are what can affect the small passages in the tig lines and torch. Pure EG is hard to find and expensive. Some say Toyota antifreeze is the best with the least additives. That being said, I use distilled water and RV antifreeze (propylene glycol) in mine without a problem. No way I'm paying $90 for 3 gallons of coolant. No problems for 2 years now running up to 300 amps on a CK230 and a CM3.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum

Reply:I never knew this was an issue til today. lol been running regular green antifreeze since the mid 80's, the last 15 in an unheated garage, with no problems. Maybe I need to change it for something more expensive.

Reply:If you guys want quality like Toyota go with cat elc coolant It's red in color and rated to 500000 miles in a diesel also contains adative to prevent silicate issues and issues with a.uminum. Doesn't have to be cat branded but diesel rated extended life coolant can usually get straight for about 12$a gal

Reply:There is no straight answer as to what coolant. I've run tap water with a sink, straight distilled water, straight distilled with soluble oil and Lysol, straight distilled with Lysol alone, 25% GM Dex Cool and real Miller Coolant (way, way, way too expensive). The only thing I haven't tried yet is Karo Corn Syrup.I've never had a torch burn up on any of it. My welding school teacher ran his TIG machines with tap water out of a sink. I'd do that if I had a sink. It's all good as far as I'm concerned.Miller Millermatic 252Miller Syncrowave 200Liincoln AC-DC 225Victor O-A Set
