I picked up a Powermax 380 this week and it seems to work OK and cuts nicely, but I do have one question. To start the cut, you flip the yellow safety and then press the red trigger. When you release the trigger, the air continues to flow until you press the red trigger again. Is this normal? It is press once to start and press again to stop the air. Is this to cool the cutting nozzle and electrode?CPeter
Replyeep reading in the SERVICE Manual says that after the cut is complete and you release the trigger, it does air flow for 10 seconds. Mine goes for much longer, 30-45 seconds. Is this adjustable? I can not find anything related to this in either the service or operator's manuals.CPeter
Reply:Yes the post flow air is to cool the consumables after the cut. The air running after the cut is normal and you should not hit the trigger again to by pass that or you will wear out the consumables faster for no reason. I don't know exactly how long the post flow is that is "normal" on that machine, but I'm sure Jim Colt will be along to tell you that information..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:The Powermax380 was actually built by Miller for Hypertherm. I suggest contacting tech service (they are free) and asking if there is an adjustment to post flow time. I know on the newer Hypertherm systems post flow is a firmware (non-adjustable) function, however on the older technology (like the 380) it is possible that there is an adjustment potentiometer on the main board....maybe tech service will know. How it could have changed makes no sense to me!Jim Colt Hypertherm Originally Posted by CPeterDeep reading in the SERVICE Manual says that after the cut is complete and you release the trigger, it does air flow for 10 seconds.
