Is there a real big differance between these besides the size and weight of the sp200?I mean as far as the welding with them.Am I thinking correctly in thinking that the 175 has 5 volts less than the 180 and the 180 has 20 less volts than the 200?if so there isn't really a huge differance is there.I been welding for a long time but never really looked and researched the machines I was running.I had a job that needed done so I picked up what I had to use and took care of buisness.I just recently started looking at machines to purchase and want to know what wire machine I can get to give me the most bang for the buck.I was always told you HAVE to weld aluminum tig on AC,but I bought that book I have seen in here and it says aluminum can be welded with dcep and dcen also my question to that is do I need a high freq box to weld with the DC's? Reply:The word is AMPS.SP200-200amps175-175amps180-180 ampsThat and the SP-200 is a full size machine, a little crude but tough and reliable.The 180 and 175 are small machines.

Reply:I have the 180c. I would have to consider the sp200 strongly. While it is large. The wire feeder comes out and I have seen people put them on cart. or hang them overhead.Does the sp200 have any options like stitch timer.Perhaps somebody else will have more info. on the sp200. Duty cycle has never been a issue for me with any welder. Though you may want to compare the the duty cycles. I think the sp200 will have the better cycle.If planning on doing any amount of aluminum, then more amps is better. perhaps the price on the sp200 isn't firm.Good luck
Reply:Just an important note - Lincoln electric discontinued the SP200 over 8 years ago. If you're looking at this machine, it must be well-used. There's two important points when considering this: 1) Lincoln supports replacement parts for a machine up to 8 years after it has been discontinued - after that you have to find them from old machines or service shops. 2) arc quality has improved dramatically over the last decade. The Power MIG 180 uses diamond core technology. Essentially all that means is that Lincoln uses a specially designed and patented choke to achieve variable inductance. This means that you get a smooth arc from start to finish. I've used this machine a lot and the common "stutter" starts are dramatically reduced As for aluminum welding, there is a low cost spool-gun option for this machine that welds really nice. Very easy to setup and no expensive module required. You can weld 3/64 wire pretty easiy. Just a note - AC is only required for TIG welding aluminum. in MIG welding aluminum we use DC+. If you need a little more jam and a slightly heavy dutier machine, I would move up to the Power MIG 215, but for the money - the 180 is a great deal - especially if you're mostly welding 1/4" and under. You can weld up to 1/2" with a single pass when using self-shielded flux cored wires.
Reply:I love my PM180C. Wonderful little machine. The 100SG is OK too, but, I'm not a huge fan of spool guns....they have their place.Yeah, yeah, I know you are a weldor too. But, are you a good one?
