Few days ago I was running 7010 3/32 rod on thiswith 65 amps on, 3/32 gap, 1/16 land, 2" pipe schd 80 , most likely that coupon  was heavier  than 80, Lincoln was set for "stick" welding, not for TIG  or whatever...Root pass.Barely  was able to make a key hole.. not much.. really NOT MUCH..that rod was sh****ing all over..played with me like 20-30 amps does...Checked polarity.. looked OK..Right after I finished root pass.I got three luck of fusions and two slag trapsVery next day with the same identical couponswith the same, taken from same box 7010 rodbut different welder, and  With just about 50 amps I was burning that coupon like a paper... !!!!What part of set up of Miller XMT  I was missing? BTW... I have switched polarity on both lincoln and miller yestardayAnd I could not see any difference, that rod 7010 and 6010 , they worked  the  samethey melt like a butter on frying pan...Have YOU ever had a trouble with Miller XMT ?65 amps on 3/32 rod and being not even able to make a keyhole?Tnx
Reply:I haven't done much with an XMT 350, but plenty with XMT 304's. I've seen the machines act "odd" if they are set to remote instead of panel when doing stick, even without a remote hooked up. I had a student on Thursday trying to run 6010 and having lots of trouble with the machine set that way. As soon as I flipped it to panel from remote the machine ran fine. I've also seen the kids mess with the arc force knob and have things act "weird". Kids can come up with some weird settings to screw with other students all the time.I'd really want to see the front of the machine with the front lid down so I could exactly see how it was set up..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:You might want to kick your amperage up also check your ground clamp heat range for 7010 rod is3/32" = 40 - 80 ampsSo you do have a little room to play withtrailblazer 302thunderbolt ac dc machine Hobart fluxcoreAHP tig 200x 2015
Reply:As DSW said check the Panel/Remote switch (if the machine has one) it should be on "panel" or "local" on Lincoln machines.  That has thrown me off before when I forgot to change it one way or the other.  Another thought might be to make sure the machine is set up for whatever current you are using to power it.  I mean if the machine is set up to run on three phase and you are only connected to single phase that will cause problems.

Reply:That pict machine is set to stick, and set to panel like it should be for running stick. I usually keep the Dig set in the middle, but some prefer it some where else to adjust how soft/harsh the arc is..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size.
