I recently inherited a century dual amp mig welder, it is a 1993 model year, stock # 117-052-001. It has a rocker switch that is 2 position. One position is 20 amp 120 volt input for 90 amps, the other position is 25 amp 120 volt for 105 amps.I canot find any info on this thing anywhere. Does any body know the specs on this machine. I want to run it with a bottle, and will only be welding up to 3/16" steel. Any info would be appriciated .
ReplyDoes any body have a Century 90 / 105 mig welder ?incoln bought Century in 2003, but I dont know if they are supporting the older models.Still, you could email Lincoln and ask.I had an older century mig welder, mine was probably a late 80's model. It pretty much sucked. Cheap construction, virtually impossible to find parts for, real welding supply stores laughed at me.It seemed to be less powerful than it said it was- mine was a 220 volt model, and it was pretty wimpy. Sold it, and never looked back.Century was primarily a battery charger company, welders were never their first priority.
Reply:I had one for years.  ...great welder.  With the proper amperage you can do 3/16.  I operated of a 30 amp breaker or generator.  Never had a problem and never any issues with duty cycle.       We had an authorized dealer here.  Dave at Dave's Driveshaft in Nashville, Tn.  He is still in business just not dealing in Century stuff anymore.  He told me the older centuries had stronger drive motors in them than newer stuff.mines was 1994 model

Reply:flux core.  I used only one year out 3 as MIG.  I buillt lot of  hand rails with it.  It wasn't a good MIG machine.  At least not good for short weld it was too slow to get hot and you end up with big fat weld.  I used it mostly in the field for installations.
Reply:After all this lurking and learning, finally a first message!I have a Century 135 MIG, purchased in the mid 90's, and it has worked well for me, for what little I get to use it, plus only having 120v at the time. Finally got a tank of C25 this year to run it as a MIG, been using flux before, but that has been fine as my welding before was mostly outside. I have scanned the manual to have it available if I lose the original, and I found a schematic for the 90-105 amp model online a while back, attached here. Unless yours shows a model number of 90 (or 105), it sounds like my 135, as I have the same switch for low 90 and high 105 range, based on the circuit you are using.Send me a private message with your email, and I can email you the manual in PDF, it's about 4 MB.Mike Attached ImagesCentury 90-105 schematic.pdf (20.2 KB, 774 views)
Reply:Mine had the schematic on the inside of the panel.
Reply:yeah, can i get one of those pdf 's as well....i have the same situation.A part number to the power cord would be a plus also.   thanks
Reply:I have one that I converted to gas many years ago. I think 3/16 might be pushing it. Mine will do 1/8 very good. I do not remember if I have ever done 3/16 but I wold say it would be a little cold but would weld.  It is a good welder but it is just too low of amps for stuff I do. It would be a good welder for a body shop. I could not find a set of feed rolls for hard wire so I turned a groove on the back side of the flux core drive roller. It works good with the .023 wire I have in it. Now that I think about it mine might be 70 amps on low and 90 amps on high. I never use the low setting.
