I have an old buzz saw blade with a 3" crack in it. Any ideas on how to weld it would be great thanks.
Reply:UH, You can't and then spin it. It will come apart! If you are going to use it, then go to an auction and buy another.
Reply:That's what I thought .. But I was told of two different ways of doing it. 1. put a bevel on both sides, pre heat, weld, post heat. 2. bevel both sides and use heat sink and use a filler with nickel.

Reply:make it a nice wall hanger before you become a victim of flying metal....spend the money for a new blade............Of all the things I lost I miss my mind the most...I know just enough about everything to be dangerous......You cant cure stupid..only kill it...
Reply:High carbon steel, metal fatigue, a recipe for disaster. Not that it couldn't be saved, but at what cost? Anneal before welding , weld with a low-hydrogen process, grind, re-heat treat, balance and tension. Reply:I am afraid it will warp all over the place after welding. As others have said, use it for decoration.Dan D.Manipulator Of Metal
Reply:Can it be done? Yep.Should it be done? Nope. These blades are usually around 45-50Rc and over hardening is an issue. You can anneal the welded area to bring the hardness back down, but do you have the hammers and anvils/rollers to re-tension the blade? New blades like this are generally under $300 buy a new one - those savings are not worth someone getting seriously hurt or killed.BradFulcrum Saw & Tool
Reply:Where you located ? I have one you can have , sharp and great shape. If you are close let me know and I'll measure the arbor and diameter.
