From what I have gathered up on the net/Thermal support.Early models of 2.0.0 filmware and below show the SL-100SV torch on the panel when scrolled through the torch settingsLater models of Filmware  of 2.1.0 does not show the SL-100SV torch, until it's hooked up to the machine. Also, this is the first version with Plasma Making on it.Set the panel to gouge, and at 25 amps or below the machine switches to marking mode. Three bars show up, and the gouge sign disappears on the panel.Thermal techMarking was written into firmware revision 2.1.0.    Marking is written as a function of gouging. It is activated in both hand and automation units set to gouging and ran at current less than 25A. The automation/voltage divider card is P/N 9-8308More from Thermal techDuring the Cutmaster 60i design stages it was thought we should work on increasing the electrode life. Thus a new number was issued.(9-8214)  Then real life kicked in and we just did the enhancements to the standard electrode 9-8215. We can work with your Distributor to get you replacement handles under warranty. Get with them with the serial number.  They can contact us and we can ship two no charge handles.Yes , we have experienced inconsistencies in the strength of material from the Supplier. the lower ft/upper ft, and rear are all the same P/N  9-9665Hope this helps some people. Just things I needed to know about the 60i..BTW my machine with the handle issue was a 2.0.0  machine.. Others shipped fine. Just what I noticed in getting three of them.A40i/A60i manual. it will give you more info on Marking, etc, since it's not in the standard 60i manual.https://www.thermal-dynamics.com/the...466-manual.pdfLast edited by Brand X; 10-30-2018 at 01:37 PM.Esab/Lorch ET-220iEsab 160i caddyThermal LM-200 Lincoln feedersThermal Pee-Wee 85sThermal 60i- 3phase /RPC powered (Beast)Thermal Drag-gun 35CINE 1500 Klutch 140i

Reply:I asked but did not receive a answer on the upgrade Service manual is a bit vague there too.. The two I am keeping are a 2.1.0 and a 2.2.0 that shows up when you first boot it up..The 2.0.0 certainly does not have marking, and shows the SL-100SV torch in the menu, even when the SV is not hooked up.. I am thinking if you get a 2.1.0 and above you are good to go..  I Don't know the difference Between a 2.2.0 and a 2.1.0. Both work fine for me..Maybe I just don't want to know either..Last edited by Brand X; 10-30-2018 at 01:23 PM.Esab/Lorch ET-220iEsab 160i caddyThermal LM-200 Lincoln feedersThermal Pee-Wee 85sThermal 60i- 3phase /RPC powered (Beast)Thermal Drag-gun 35CINE 1500 Klutch 140i

Reply:if you play around in the pilot arc mode you can get great low amp making. I only went down a bar on air in that setting.. The standard machine can do marking, so I would not worry too much about it.. I Have no idea if the 20 psi is the only thing that changes when in the low amp marking setting.. I have the correct nozzles, and I wll see if I can match my low amp pilot arc marking. Those are pretty dang nice..If you put the card in the standard machine pretty much will work on CNC cutting as well as it needs too. That part I know without using their card..I am guessing they came out with the marking on the cnc unit, and then just flashed all of them the same after that point,For argon/air marking mostly specs on the CNC machine are a little higher in spots, but same machine really.. 132 volts at 60 amps output..50% on single phase 230 volts.. (7920 KW cutting power)The grey box is it's weak sister nice sister, but a little sickly.. I arc poking though the bottom of the plate on 1 inch says it all..145 volts X 45 amps at 50% for the 45XP (6525 KW cutting power)Not bad for a $455 power supply..first box sent was the highest flimware..middle one the oldest..Last edited by Brand X; 10-30-2018 at 08:15 PM.Esab/Lorch ET-220iEsab 160i caddyThermal LM-200 Lincoln feedersThermal Pee-Wee 85sThermal 60i- 3phase /RPC powered (Beast)Thermal Drag-gun 35CINE 1500 Klutch 140i
Reply:Guessing my machine only unit is a 2.0.0 as I noticed right away the machine torch showed up on the menu when I had read it should not.Since I am not concerned with marking, that doesn’t really mean anything right?

Reply:Best try the phone on support.. The reflash question has been asked by me three times, and never a reply to that issue..By the the top tech guy too.. I am just kind of tired of asking, since I know everything works on the older 2.0.0 machines. I was just wondering, that's all..As far a the marking on older software. It can be done just fine with the older 2.0.. (IMO) Since I done it.. Having the SV torch show up was just changed in the software to not confuse people. The older software machines cuts the same, so I would not worry about it..Esab/Lorch ET-220iEsab 160i caddyThermal LM-200 Lincoln feedersThermal Pee-Wee 85sThermal 60i- 3phase /RPC powered (Beast)Thermal Drag-gun 35CINE 1500 Klutch 140i

Reply:Automation torch. means it has a air valve built into the torch. unlike the 180 degree machine torch that has no air valve built in. Also there is no contactor pigtail like on SV torch to put a hand held remote on it. It must be fired from the machine's cpc/or internal So when you use the standard 180 degree. machine torch without the vale built in,the setting will have to be set in the SL-100 config.(For the hand torch) Older cutmasters, just auto sensed the SV torch and was good to go.. It would not tell you a thing, but just work.. It's all about the air management features on the 60i, and really nothing more..Esab/Lorch ET-220iEsab 160i caddyThermal LM-200 Lincoln feedersThermal Pee-Wee 85sThermal 60i- 3phase /RPC powered (Beast)Thermal Drag-gun 35CINE 1500 Klutch 140i
Reply:Scott,All great info you provided! The handle cracking thing was weird for sure. Thier supplier really screwed them on this. I finally have two machines that don't have any cracks, including the air valve bezel....now I just have to get my machine only unit sent back and replaced, all three handles on it are cracked and broken including the outer bezel on back top. Only one other thing I had was one of the captive nuts was in the loose in the bottom of the unit, that was the side that was not all the way flush, and when I took it apart had to work it back in so it would hold enough and slowly thread the bolt in on the case. The fuse welding of these nuts must break when they are jamming in the bolts on assembly. I did notice they have Sanrex power supplies which means good stuff on the inside!I did order a 3 phase machine, and it sounded like something was rattling inside, when I hooked it up it was DOA and started smoking. The second one I got was perfect and cuts nice hooked up on the rotary phase converter, this is going to be the one I get a machine torch for and have for the table. Now I just need to find a machine torch cheap and buy a interface card.I will play around with the marking as soon as I find a machine torch, I want to put this machine head to head testing with the 85/45xp on all functions. 40 amps it what I can cut with on my generator, any higher and it errors out. I need a 15k I guess to get full power, it's what I expected though.ESAB Rebels 215 and 235, ESAB HELIARC 281i, ESAB ET 301i, Hypertherm 85 and 45XP, Thermal Arc 185, TD 60i, HTP PRO PULSE 300
Reply:Meant to say above, the SL-100 SV torch does not have a pigtail for a remote. Had it worded wrong. That is why it is called the automation torch.. The pigtail for the contactor is on the standard machine torch hanging off the ATC plug.Chris, I have not ran the 60i on my MQ 6000 generator, but I think I could pull 35 amps out of it, depending on Arc length. In some ways just using my 38XL, and SL40 torch running on 230 output makes the most sense for me.. The little 2.6 cfm Rolair JC-10 compressor would work on it at the same time too..It draws 7 amps max. and keeps up for 3.5 minutss, and a 45 second full air recovery after that time.. I am going to try the correct marking consumables later. Never got there yet.10-40 amp A style gouging nozzles.Esab/Lorch ET-220iEsab 160i caddyThermal LM-200 Lincoln feedersThermal Pee-Wee 85sThermal 60i- 3phase /RPC powered (Beast)Thermal Drag-gun 35CINE 1500 Klutch 140i

Reply:Just to add this part again.. I can do just as nice a job marking in the standard mode. So if you have a older version, don't sweat it a bit if you are worried about marking with it..not broke, don't fix it deal..Mine is 2.2.0 but the handles are 2.4.0.Esab/Lorch ET-220iEsab 160i caddyThermal LM-200 Lincoln feedersThermal Pee-Wee 85sThermal 60i- 3phase /RPC powered (Beast)Thermal Drag-gun 35CINE 1500 Klutch 140i

Reply:I just figured lucky me with 2.3.0 so the marking will drop the psi down to 20 psi when amps are dialed down below 26 amps.Lincoln, ESAB, Thermal Dynamics, Victor, Miller, Dewalt, Makita, Kalamzoo.  Hand tools, power tools, welding and cutting tools.
Reply:All I am saying is I can do better without it with air marking.. Not even sure if it has any sensing to know the difference between Air, and Argon? It's all kind of crude compared to a Hypertherm 45XP, and really finding your own setup with the 60i marking will lead to better results anyway. Completely off the wall is best, since Thermal give you very little info on setting it up anyway..Does it dial it down after the start cartridge fires? seems more then 20 psi when using air feed.   I still contend you will not miss the upgrade one bit if you are going for quality marking.. If I want real quality my air scribe is what I will use.. No nozzle changes or stopping between using the scribe, and then cutting.Last edited by Brand X; 11-03-2018 at 01:08 AM.Esab/Lorch ET-220iEsab 160i caddyThermal LM-200 Lincoln feedersThermal Pee-Wee 85sThermal 60i- 3phase /RPC powered (Beast)Thermal Drag-gun 35CINE 1500 Klutch 140i

Reply:Chris,My mobile setup. MQ 6000 genny running at 4000 ft altitude. SL-40 torch/20-35 amp nozzle, JC-10 compressor (2.4 cfm @90 psi)  output max is 35 amps cutting .750 steel. Tested it out for some mobile cutting tomorrow,) dialing it back to 30-33 give me good reserve with no faults. Can get some with going to 36 amps output, but best to keep it down, and not push it. It really a great way to go if you only have so much power to work with.. The fact that the air keeps up perfect with the nozzle combo, means way less compressor to drive.. Best Thermal setup for air use.. I am running the 25ft extension on the 15 ft SL-40 torch..  Everything can stay in the truck that way.. Would of used my 38XL, but the Thermal Dynamics PCH-42ER torch has not showed yet. Figure it will be pretty good too on air.
