Hi all, I've been in the process of dismantling my '54 short hood.Started out as "oh I'm just going to take it apart just enough to clean it up and paint it" Then of course I see stuff I want to fix like an oil leak here and there. Nothing major and honestly could have left well enough alone. But then that voice in your head says " well since I got it apart this far." Anyway, I got the exciter armature off to eventually get the main gen. off to eventually get the motor on a stand and replace seals, probably engine bearings too etc. I want to replace the armature bearing too while I got it apart. The bearing that's on it now appears in good shape (no slop, spins smooth) but if I can get a new bearing of the same make model and (made in USA) I will go ahead and replace it. The bearing has stamped on it (BCA 308SS) is this the make and part #? because I have found through a search of this to be perhaps Federal Mogul brand and run about $71. Also, who can I order new main engine bearings for this F-162? Attached Images

Reply:Yea I've been looking at those offered by Stumpfs and others.I can't see what brand etc. they are, and not any detailed info on them. As to your Gov. leaking CEP, this is what I did to mine. Don't know if it will completely stop the small leak around the pivot arm, but I don't see how it can. I got this idea from my boss who grew up a farmer and figured he knew his way around a governor or two. We'll see. I took a snug fitting neoprene bushing, trimmed it to fit, packed area with some sticky grease, put a flat washer over it and slid the arm and roll pin back on over the whole shebang. Attached Images
Reply:That's a pretty slick idea there kamotz, I'll have to remember that one. I'm positive my leak is the gasket, small leak at the bottom of the flange. I used some Lucas oil treatment, that slowed it up tremendously. Can barely see a drop on the dip stick between oil changes. It's just aggravating to have oil leaks, no matter how small!Dont pay any attention to meIm just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
