This is what the advert is:I have a Lincoln 175 plus up for sale, I inherited it from my grandfather and it worked when he used it but it has seen its share of hard work, I'm selling so cheap cause its missing the wire feed gun and the case is dented up as well. Its a buy as is and my house doesn't have a 220 hook up for it to show it works but believe me it does and good.I do have 220 at my house.I realize there is no gun, no regulator, and no tank with this... I want to do some sheet metal welding on my car for the most part. Should I pick this up, or should I wait for something more complete?Here are the pictures he sent me:
Reply:I have some experience stick welding, but none mig welding btw. I would want to use this mainly with gas. If you say it's a good deal then I will try to pick up the parts as needed. Thanks guys!

Reply:i have seen better....and worse for the $200-300 range for this kind of unit. my major concern would be what is the charred area all about? did something get roasted inside?not having a gun or way to test it on site i would maybe toss him an even hundred and take the gamble if the machine is what you are looking for....as was previously posted, a new gun can run up to $150+. if you were to already have a gun on hand then the deal wouldnt be so bad but tossing another buck and a half into a potential boat anchor....i would maybe keep looking. just my .02
Reply:Hmmmm. Okay I will offer him 100a and go from there... since I can't test it and there isn't a regulator or tank maybe I will just keep waiting if he wants more. Thanks for your advice!
Reply:i would suggest looking for a used tank and regulator. tank local from like C/L and reg either C/L or lws....also you could ask lws if they have any junk machines that you could rob a gun off of or buy discounted.good luck, and happy shopping!

Reply:Congrads dude!! Have fun with it... You can skip the bottle and regulator for now, and just get a 2lb spool of Flux-Core to try out, to get a feel for wire welding and the machine in general. Reply:I bought a brand new one like that about 3 years ago. It works excelent. You do have to have a hand piece and cables even to run flux core. But I belive you could adapt a Harbor frieght hand piece and cables. Mac

Reply:Before you by a gun. plug the welder in and see if the fan runs.Right about the drive are two plug in connections.Short these out with a paper clip and turn on the power. If the drive runs and the welder hums quietly. Should be good to go. If hums real loud may have a shorted diode pair.Case just looks a little abused.See the chart on the door for set up instructions. DC neg on the gun for flux core wire and DC pos. on the gun for hard wire with gas.Have fun and let us know if it works out.
Reply:It welds!I took it to school and had the auto body tech hook his lincoln 135 stuff up to this. All worked great!
Reply:I found a gun with a gas tip on CL for 45 dollars from a lincoln 135, so I'm going to go get that I think. I'll then buy a flux tip and be off and running I think!
