Was hoping someone could help me with the alloy composition of snowmobile rear suspension parts. I am mainly looking for rails and idler wheel axles composition. I need to machine some custom parts and want to purchase the correct stock. I know Zapster and others talk about sledding. Any help is greatly appreciated. RS
Reply:I imagine it depends somewhat on the manufacturer. Some Boggy wheels have cast aluminum centers. In any event I sure depending on what your doing 6061 should work out. Are you making bolt on or weld on parts. If weld on it would just be best to check with the manufacturer.
Reply:Yep..6061 T651 is what most suspension parts are on a Ski-Doo....Bogey wheels now a dayze are all plastic with a rubber hammer press fit bearing with retaining snap ring...All the axle stuff and spacers are all 6061......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Hey Zap I know you ride a lot in northern new Hampshire. If you ever make it to Vermont let me know i'm in the killington area. Might try to break away on the free weekend this year and try to ride pittsberg area. Spent a lot of time in errol on umbagog fishing I imagine the trails are pretty decent in that area also.
Reply:Ice Age makes aftermarket rails and I'm pretty sure they are 7075 but I could be wrong.

Reply:6061 t6 for Polaris stuff rails and axles.. just out of curriousity what are you building custom rails two wheel kit etc? If your building a two wheel kit it is just cheaper to buy one(or rearrange the spacers)...billet idlers not sure I know that they are tough I have a billet two wheel on my sled and have yet too break them....Things that are great made from billet for sleds are them damn pull rope handles amazing how brittle the OEM ones are when its uber cold out(and mixed with a high comp big block twin.... ) Hope this helps! Now I am going back to my snow dance, as it is hard to go play in the steep and deep when there ain't now powder yet!Millermatic 30aMillermatic 210Miller thunderbolt 225 ac/dc/ccMiller HF15-1-wg tigLincoln ranger 10(honda powered)Cebora 175 mig Too damn many tools but oddly not enough......

ReplySnowmobile rear suspensions. Aluminum alloy??ooks well covered already. I have welded up many of broken rails on sleds over the years.Whatcha machinin for the rails?

Reply:I have had the suspension out of my '06 GSX twice and the axle and everything else is aluminum..Same thing when I had the Mach Z with the "Fast" suspension..Steel weighs too much....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

But then again I don't have a single storage compartment left on my sled, so that extra pair of goggles and my lunch have to ride zip tied to the under side of the hood. kind of a P.i.t.a but guess that's the price I pay to get the high mark on the mountain.....

Reply:Oh boy sled talk!My wife and I's sleds I had home a couple years ago to ride. I love my 700! Yeah that is 05 registration on the 700 lol.
Reply:Nice them wedge 700xcs were  fast machine's! I just sold a 96 polaris ultra RMK 680 Mod sled I had, she was running 13-1 domes race pipes and porting, sporting a 153"x 2.5" arctic cat attack 20 track in climb mode..... A beast to start she had about 150psi in all three cylinders and mixing 91octane and VP120 race fuel 60/40 got to expensive.  But she did not get rode the last two seasons,as my 2003 RMK 700 would out climb her and weighed way less, so she only came out if the '03 went down. And this season I am looking to upgrade to a 2010 RMK dragon 700 163"(yet again lighter and will out climb the 2003) and roll the 03 into the backup sled....Millermatic 30aMillermatic 210Miller thunderbolt 225 ac/dc/ccMiller HF15-1-wg tigLincoln ranger 10(honda powered)Cebora 175 mig Too damn many tools but oddly not enough......

And hey them old summit 670's were a mean machine back in there day! not a bad climber but could also dish it out on the lakes!
