Makita 14" Chop Saw Problem

Ok, this is the 2414NB model of the makita 14" chop saw.  It used to cut great, now it bogs down very quickly even without any real pressure on the item I am cutting.  It seems as if the motor is weak so when the blade contacts the working piece, it just slows down like it does not have any balls. What could be the problem?I really have no idea what I am doing. Two Shop Cats (not Bobcats...real cats)Miller DialArc 250 AC/DCScratch-Start TIG SetupMIG 175Plasma CutterO/A
Reply:im under the impression that brushes are a go/ no-go deal but it may be worth pulling them out to see if they are worn past useable. easy to do just loosen the two plastic flathead screwdriver plugs and they should pop out. other than that, check your power.do you get any sparking other than just a little bit at startup?bosses stuff:trailblazer 325maxstar 200my stuff:sa 200fronius transpocket 180100 amp Lincoln w/f97 f350 DITKevin
Reply:Is the blade glazed over ? Try another blade.
Reply:Try a new piece of metal.I've been cutting miters on 2"x3" 1/4" wall tubing, and one of the miters got so bad, it would not cut.Flat out would not throw sparks.Thru a new piece of flatbar in, and it cut just fine.Just a couple welders, big hammers, grinders, and torches.Work will free you.Men in dirty jeans built this country, while men in clean suits have destroyed it. Reply:I have the same saw and ran mine off an extension cord and over heated the brushes. The motor would spin but had no power like you are experiencing. A new set of brushes and it worked much better.Miller 180SDLincoln weld pak 180Hobart 250ciMill Lathe
Reply:Gents, thanks for all the comments.  I'll look at the brushes when I get home this afternoon.  I will report back again with my findings.I really have no idea what I am doing. Two Shop Cats (not Bobcats...real cats)Miller DialArc 250 AC/DCScratch-Start TIG SetupMIG 175Plasma CutterO/A
Reply:Guys, here is what I did and the results.  Took the brushes out and they looked fine.  scrubbed them across the welding table to uncover some new carbon and put them back in.  Cut some new pieces of stock and it seemed to work just fine...not slowing down...no weakness.   So, I think the brushes just needed some love.  I think it's working just fine, now. Thanks for the advice!I really have no idea what I am doing. Two Shop Cats (not Bobcats...real cats)Miller DialArc 250 AC/DCScratch-Start TIG SetupMIG 175Plasma CutterO/A
Reply:While you at it, see if you can remove motor end bell and polish up rotor contacts....If the brushes have built up  insulating layer, so has rotor....and make sure to run it straight from 20 amp wall outlet or at least 12AWG short cord....Shucks, even my Dewalt chop saw and cheap Harbor Freight stuff came with replacement brushes....buy several sets while you can get them.
