Reply:I usually build them like an inverted T either with or w/o diagonal braces, depending on the size and strength of the uprights. I usually cap the ends of the crawl (I) beam to prevent twisting. Reply:liking the build so far. maybe I missed it but are the casters of the locking type? ya know to prevent unwanted rolling. on a side note, an old gantry (like 1940's) that a buddy uses has supports 1/4"x2" running from the top beam to the outer ends of the legs. - think large triangle from beam>base>caster. however, your gussets at the base will probably work just as well, if not better.

Reply:Gussets, like yours, seldom need full length welds. Not that it's a bad thing, it just adds a lot of heat which is more to deal with when straightening. The assembly is fairly well balanced so I'd imagine distortion wasn't too bad."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
