1998 sa250 here with the perkins and was wondering what kind of windings i have, considering i have the octogon barrel and not the round one. thanks!
Reply:I don't believe there ever was a round barrel 250.
Reply:they never did. but the 300ds and i think all of the new machines like the sae300s have the octogon barrel but are labeled as all copper
Reply:This generator is labeled as a 250 AS DC. It ran good and welded good when I got it about 10 years ago. It is Wisconsin V4 driven. I need to get the timing set. It is  '56 by the serial no. I believe it is copper wound.
Reply:i know anything before the 70's is all copper. but since 72 ish up it was a mix of copper and aluminum in the sa 200 250 300s etc until they made the classics i think
