I got a free 220 volt 130 amp Tig gas welder so I can practice welding, and I need to know a few things.The machines is missing a few things (correct me if I'm wrong) : torch, ground cable and the plug is what I dont get it looks like its cut off it has 3 wires one is green the other is white and the last one is black.Is this thing suppose to have a plug on it like a 3 prong? ( I use to work as an appliance delivery drive and part of the installation that we installed the plug and there the same exact color of wire as this wire on my tig.
Reply:You just need to get a plug to fit your outlet.  Remember, 220-240v have several plug configurations.  Dryers and stoves are often 220-240v and may have different plugs.  Go find the 220 outlet you intend to use for the welder, draw the shape of the slots and carry the drawing to home depot to get you a plug to match.  If you dont have a 220 outlet you can use, you will need to address that first, before you buy a plug for your welder.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:I"ve been using one of these things in my lab here.  It's pretty fun.  I've arc welded a bunch of steel and stainless steel.  I even welded a bunch of ss bars to make a grill for a pig roaster.  it didn't break this year... maybe next year.  The tig is fun too, but you need gas.  We have lots of helium here, but that's not the standard thing.  Anyway I've been having fun with it.  I even made a fun little carbon arc torch to supplement.
