I picked up this 16.5cfm rolair awhile back. Any one ever mounted on on side af a sa200 or big40 type welder. I think it could be done with the right pulley bolted on the alternator.This compressor had a eletric motor on it. I think in 5 or 8hp ballpark the f163 should be more than enough to run it.Im just thinking outloud. I just hauled a load of scrap metal to recycle and couldnt bring myself to haul compressor off yet.
Reply:Having the pump running all the time might be a problem. I think a york compressor with a 2 belt 12volt clutch would be a better option. Think the 210 puts out something like 9-10 cfm.
Reply:If you can rig up an unloader valve on it, yes, it could be belt driven. ReplyTurning a big engine drive into air packike poleframer mentioned, you will need an electric clutch of some kind, like is used on a vehicle A/C compressor so it won't be turning when not needed. Then you could have it set up to de-clutch when max pressure is achieved in place of an unloader valve that mla2ofus talked about. You will probably be wanting to get a decently large size receiver tank or two for it too, so the compressor won't have to cycle on and off frequently when using air. Two 25 gallon propane tanks may be ideal for this, especially if they have not been previously filled.
Reply:I have the same Roll Air with the gas engine and it has the unloader valve. Once it comes to pressure the valve allows the cylinders to dump excess pressure. In other words it just bypasses and dumps. Rather than hook it to the SA200 why don't you just get a gas engine and the unloader valve. Reply:I've seen several SA200s and other makes running air compressors with some sort of extended drive from the crankshaft running a pulley in front of the radiator. Used to be common on the local Cat dealer trucks.
Reply:Yes compressor is designed to not realy use tanks blows off ounce reaching pressure.I was thinking have compressor on a slide with a arm that cambs over drop belt on when need camb arm for belt tension.Compressor wouldnt be used all that often but would rattle on big equipment every ounce in awhile. I need some 3/16 could incorporate torch tank mounts into a small air tank.I did some google searching and havent yet seen a compressor mounted on a sa200 or similar machine.
