Looking for a dual voltage might welder. These two seem to be of good quality. Looking to see if anyone has experience with either. It will only be for in house shop projects. Nothing serious or hightech. Thanks in advance
Reply:I just bought the ESAB but I had also looked at the Miller. With ESAB's $200 rebate going on right now, it was a hard deal to turn down.I'm just a guy farting around in his shop like you, and I have been completely satisfied with the ESAB purchase so far.Bunk
Reply:I have the Millermatic 211 inverter and it's a good machine but mine came with a slight wobble on the drive motor assembly.  I have to use about 3.5 out of 4.5 on the tension knob to make sure it feeds the way it's supposed to, otherwise it will slip.  But once the tension is set where it needs to be it welds just fine and has a very smooth arc.  You can weld 1/2" in two passes no problem.  Duty cycle is limited but that is to be expected for a weekend-warrior type MIG.  Do I hesitate to use it? Absolutely not.  Love the arc on it. 1st on WeldingWeb to have a scrolling sig! Reply:Actually the first I have heard any issues with the 211. Thanks

Reply:I don't have any personal experience with the Millermatic 211, but I've heard mostly good and almost bought one a couple times.I currently have the EM 215ic and like it quite a bit. Also not a pro, but it has been great for the couple projects I've done so far.

Reply:My personal preference would be to spend a little more and go with a Multimatic 215. With C25 shielding gas, the Multimatic 215 has a real good MIG arc. For me, the arc characteristics and the LCD read out make the Multimatic 215 a user friendly unit to dial in a solid MIG arc.ESAB Migmaster 250 Hobart Ironman 230Multimatic 215TWECO Fabricator 181i & 211iHH125EZ - nice little fluxcore only unitMaxstar 150 STH - very nice

Reply:Nothing wrong with a little wet nurse every now and then Get the Rebel and don't look back.  It's a fine machine for the price.Lincoln, ESAB, Thermal Dynamics, Victor, Miller, Dewalt, Makita, Kalamzoo.  Hand tools, power tools, welding and cutting tools.
Reply:Yeah it's almost another $500. For  me, someone who is learning and just wants to mess around in garage I need to set a limit. I am definitely leaning towards the rebel

Reply:I have the EMP 215ic, it went **** up about 2 months after I bought it. A week later I had a brand new machine. I've been happy with it since. Reply:I’m a new welder and can only comment that my Miller 211 has worked great so far and hasn’t given me any issues.  I have been impressed by what it will do just running on 110v.
Reply:Originally Posted by Brand XSo you have used the Esab, and know the arc characteristics?Pretty Soon there will be robots to wipe your A$$,and probably a option already on the synergistic machines.. I think you should learn how to dial a machine in manual before getting a wet nurse to do it for you..
Reply:Originally Posted by DanNope haven't  had an opportunity to try one of the Rebel units. Just threw the Multimatic 215 into the mix because I know from experience that it has a real good arc , and is very user friendly in manual mode. The Multimatic 215 is a also a real good Lift-arc DC TIG. I'd like to try a Millermatic 211. What I am hear of the arc on You Tube videos makes it seem very similar to the Multimatic 215.I'd hope the Rebel doesn't turn out to be something similar to my Fab 181. All kind of positive feed back on it (FAB 181) , so I purchase one and it turns out to be a definite disappointment.

Reply:One negative on the ESAB is the fact that the MIG gun supplied with it is the Fusion 180.ESAB Migmaster 250 Hobart Ironman 230Multimatic 215TWECO Fabricator 181i & 211iHH125EZ - nice little fluxcore only unitMaxstar 150 STH - very nice

Reply:Yeah I noticed that and chalked it up to the gun liner not staying tight against the tip.  When I am using that gun which is hardly ever I make sure the twist in the whip is so that the liner stays snug against the tip but not binding so the wire ends up with feeding issues.  The fusion 180 gun is definitely the week link in the package but it is usable.Last edited by N2 Welding; 05-03-2018 at 12:19 AM.Lincoln, ESAB, Thermal Dynamics, Victor, Miller, Dewalt, Makita, Kalamzoo.  Hand tools, power tools, welding and cutting tools.

Reply:Just installed a miller211 in the shop. I bought it to be used for light gauge instead of always needing to change wire out of my 350p. So far I'm impressed. Weldarc is stable and consistent. My dislikes are ground clamp and mig gun seem very cheap. Will see how it holds up........ mind you it will see limited use.
