I have finally melted down my last old set of jumper cables and am in the process of putting a couple of new sets together. looked at buying but any set that was using a 2 gauge or bigger wire was in the 200.00 range and still have ****ty clamps. I am using 1 gauge welding lead this time ( anyone know were to get the lead that is 2 leads bonded together? I thought I saw it somewhere but can't find it now.) but I am having difficulty finding a good set of clamps anyone have a recommendation? I was looking for something built like an old welding ground a solid brass clamp style thats designed for jumping batteries but not finding anything. this is what Im using but end up going through a couple sets of clamps before the cable is time to retire. https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/BK_7825268Last edited by idacal; 05-03-2018 at 10:02 PM.Do not argue with an idiot. Reply:why dont you try these.. https://www.harborfreight.com/300-am...amp-63784.htmlyou can unbolt the bottom copper insert and turn it around so it grabs the battery post better. if you buy large diameter shrink tubing you can bond together every foot or so separate cables so it looks neat, rather than electrical tape..

Reply:2 years ago Sportsmans Guide (the cheesy outdoors supplier) had 2 ga. jumper sets for 50 bux. They had heavy steel "parrot nose" clamps with copper inserts direct connected to the cable. I bought 4 sets on the spot, still have them in the trucks. I've started 12 cylinder Cat D9L's with no problems from another machine. I don't know if they still have them but I wish I had got 10 more sets to sell for $100. You will never build them for that price.

Reply:Im going to be about 140.00 with the cheesy clamps and 15’ lenth with 1 gauge that im using. 12v71 when you get a good set it sure is nice, thats the kind of engines Im starting, something is always dead and they get used a couple times a week I go to take them off the battery and the clamps are to hot to touch. Hobby time I would melt the spring right out of that clamp you jump a set of 4 series 32 batterys from another set and there is some amps passing. The problem with some of the stuff is people use it 2 times a year and store it inside a shop were the sun doesnt destroy the insulation that and the heat is finally what melted a bunch of the insulation off of my old set. I will see how long this set lasts.Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Reply:Years ago I built a 25’ set from 2/0. Used these for clamps on one end: https://www.delcity.net/store/Standa..._1046.h_105440And these on the other end: https://www.delcity.net/store/Premiu..._1045.h_105149They work great. The nice thing about 25 footers is that I don’t have to be nose to nose.Miller Trailblazer Pro 350DMiller Suitcase MIGMiller Spectrum 2050Miller Syncrowave 250DXLincoln 210MP
