Diesel SA250 code 9023   power to solenoid is in and out mostly out, at infeed of auto idle switch power will remain at around 13.6 volt machine running high idle position. When you switch to auto idle the machine will begin to idle then power will drop out to almost nothing then bounce around 1-2 volts.  Switch back to high idle and 13.6volt will return to infeed terminal of idle switch. In short the machine will begin to go to idle and then solenoid loosed power and machine jumps back to high. Sometimes if left in idle position the process will repeat. Last time machine was put up everything was fine. I have cleaned the bore and plunger on idle solenoid, cleaned board connections and connection where board mounts for ground. Reply:Just like the SA200, power flow is from switch to board/idler solenoid and the board controls the solenoid ground.How I test idler boardsSA250 automatic idler problemINCOLN IDLER BOARD BENCH TEST PROCEDURE Connect 12VDC(-) to one of the mounting holes (use a machine screw and nut to connect).Connect one lead of a 12VDC light bulb to the "W" terminal.Connect 12VDC(+) to the other lead of the 12VDC light bulb.Apply 12VDC(+) to "Y" terminal.Light bulb should light in 12-15 seconds.Apply 12VDC(-) to "R" (red wire) and light should go out.To test board mounted reed switch, run 12VDC load thru (NOT to) "B" terminals. I use my 18V cordless drill with jumper leads from battery to drill motor terminals. Reply:OK Duane, here's what I found  looks like some issues.following sequence#3 connect 12VDC + to test light      after about 5 seconds delay light comes on but glows dim   break connection and process repeats consistently#4  apply 12 VDC + to Y terminal with above connection in place light glowing dim         Light goes bright immediate no delay#6  apply 12 VDC - to Red terminal       light goes out immediate   break connection to Red   Light comes on after 6-8 second delay consistently# 7   all connections above in place but Red connection broken  Light is on   1.  Making 12 VDC + power connection to B terminal farthest to the left in picture, good arc occurs and light goes out immediate   break connection light on    repeat consistently        Connect to other B terminal   no arc but light goes out immediate   break connection light returns    repeat consistently For this reason I did not complete the load test with the drill motor as you suggested. Can I repair or pinpoint a component  or do I need and would it be better to replace the board. Reply:Well I erred in that I forgot your unit was the diesel with AC auxiliary power.  As such, your idler board receives a low AC voltage signal at the two BLUE terminals upon an auxiliary power load.  One also connects to chassis ground and I believe it's the outer one but I don't know if it matters which one does.As such, the DC voltage load test described above doesn't apply although the rest of the procedures you performed do.Re-reading your original description with regard to the voltage dropping at the idler switch I suspect the engine protection relay NC contacts may be to blame.  To confirm or disprove, jumper 12VDC+ directly to the idler switch and see if the idler system works properly.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
ReplySA250 automatic idler problemuane, I believe you are correct the outer blue appears to be common to ground, in picture you can see I bolted a ring terminal to mounting hole for ground and diagnostic test  trace on back appears to contact with outer blue terminal. Now when I made my first connection in the test my test light came on dim, is that ok, normal? I will have to put the board back in to put 12 v direct to idler switch I am assuming or should I test without board? Reply:I'll try to get that done tomorrow, is there a different bench test for my Diesel Idler board that I should do while I have it off or is that out for this unit, part # on it is M-13708-1 if it helps.on a lighter note, there talking about 100 degrees here tomorrow, Common occurrence for you Texans but up north here in CT , were in full panic mode. Reply:Well I didn't get a chance to jump power around the idler but had occasion to use the machine for a couple hours, started and went to idle ok, but then it later dropped and went high idle. In any event I was welding with it and over time it got much better and now seems to be working.   On that engine protection relay I assume there are contact and they might have been dirty or corroded , by using it  may have cleaned up as this machine has been idle for some time. In any event I still want to address the problem.
