So my left eye had been bothering me for a couple days. Red and watering felt like someone threw a handful of sand in it. Made an appt with the eye doctor and low and behold there was a piece of metal in it.The doc said its good I came in when I did and it should all heal just fine.My question is can anyone recommend any kind of safety goggles? I was wearing my safety glasses and a face shield but could still feel particles hitting me close to my eyes. I was using an angle grinder with a cutoff wheel, yes I probably should have changed my posture to send sparks the other way.[URL] http://m.safetyglassesusa.com/sb7010sdt.html/[URL]Perhaps something like these? I know I'll look funny but looking funny beats going to the doctor.Last edited by happymachinist; 08-29-2014 at 12:02 PM.
Reply:I use a good quality goggle when doing heavy grinding, a known brand which is ideal is Uvexusing safety glasses is fine for light stuff but generally, if you can feel sparks hitting your face then googles are the only way forward. I had to go to the hospital twice in one week to have bits picked out of my eye with a needle, Not fun
Reply:I have been grinding with glasses a cloth hood and a shield and still had stuff find its way into my eye... Goggles are the best bet for heavy stuff... Needles in the eye are no fun for sure, after that experience you take the time and all the precautions!- Christian M.C3 Welding & Fabrication - CNC Plasma Cutting-Mobile Welding-Custom welding and fabwww.c3welding.com
Reply:I even managed to get a stray piece find it's way through an air vent in the goggles. Now I use them but I have made a flap of loose tape that keeps things away from the vent. In extreme situations I've used safety glasses under a sandblasting hood, but it's really hard to keep that from fogging up. I've also made a couple trips to the ER after using just glasses.250 amp Miller DialArc AC/DC StickF-225 amp Forney AC Stick230 amp Sears AC StickLincoln 180C MIGVictor Medalist 350 O/ACut 50 PlasmaLes
Reply:Thanks for the replies. I've done some looking locally but can't find any. Probably just gonna have to roll the dice and order online. Cross my fingers that they fit half way decent.
Reply:Have a look at the positive pressure respirator and visor combosThe airflow should help push the dust away
