Reply:Nice. I caught a cup wheel in my shirt last weekend. Tore the shirt right off me, and exfoliated my chest nicely before I found the off switch. Think maybe I'll switch to paddle switch grinders only.
Reply:Originally Posted by rlitmanI think buffing it out was the problem.  Next time you need to clean your dirty shop arms, put down the power tools and try some lava soap.  Maybe a nail brush.
ReplyGrinder Bite...addle switches are a waste of time.  Without an interlock, they're more likely to start if you put them down on the paddle.  With in interlock, they're a pain. And besides, I've never seen one with a brake like a cordless drill.  They'll still be spinning at least a few seconds after you've been de-shirted and damaged.

Reply:My Uncle tells the story of when he was 16 he wanted to get a tattoo. My Grandmother told him if he got a tattoo, she'd scrub it off with a wire brush, and she was the sort of woman who if she said something, she meant it. Of course back then ( 40's)  she would have been allowed to get away with doing that as well..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:I used to keep those green 3M abrasive scruggie pads in the shower and by the wash sink. They work really well for removing die stains and so on along with Dawn dish soap. If you want something that "exfoliates" try washing up with what amounts to course artificial  steel wool. You know you are getting clean when the skin is coming off.... .No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:COOL !  If you get some assorted size wheels that could be a tattoo of the solar system .  OUCH !Yea, many times all grinders get a bug in their a$$ and kick up a storm. I think the wire wheels can buck like a bronco. Unfortunately, powers tools, ok ,all tools are only as smart as the users. Not referring to you to  but you can almost spot a guy that is gonna be getting hurt and just as you start to say something , it's too late. If that scabs over it's gonna look pretty neat .Grinders do suck sometimes...get better man.Have not been bit for quite a while, last time it took a layer off the back of my left hand.Just looked like a burn, then the blood started flowing.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.
Reply:Agree that the scab will be cool.Electric die grinders are the ones that get away from me.  At least my one with the paddle switch stops when it leaves my right hand -- no need to run very far from that one.  The one with the flip-switch on the other hand....I've seen it do some pretty spectacular stunts.  I need a version of that bomb squad bumper sticker, modified to say something like: "If you see me running, try to keep up -- my die grinder is right behind me"
Reply:zap; ouch! when using a grinder or flap wheel inside a cylinder you think you'll have enough time to react if it binds but by the time you realize something very bad is happening the damage is already done. i did the same thing a few months ago and it did not buff right out. it could've been a lot worse- glad you weren't seriously injured.i.u.o.e. # 15queens, ny and sunny fla
Reply:I used to get really mad at myself when I did stuff like that. Getting along now, I still get mad but quickly think "that's gonna leave a mark"...Then I think "what's it matter now"???You already know it coulda been much worse - something about age I think.Matt
Reply:We all have had too many close calls w/ a grinder. The 7" & 9" ones can really hurt you bad just due to the inertia of all the moving parts. Reply:Zap glad  that grinder didn't kick in  a manner to tear out an artery in your arm.   I had a friend back in 1974 get hit in the groin when his brothers chain saw kicked back as he was walking buy.  The main artery inside his groin was ripped out .  Bled out in a couple of minutes. Talked to the doctor later. He said he couldn't have saved him if it had happened in the operating room.  When the chain grabbed it literally jerked the artery out of the inside of the groin.  I know , I know we all think its not going to happen to us.  Glad you were not hurt more seriously.   Take care. Reply:I haven't been bit in a while. Worst one was a 6" Metabo with a cutoff on it. Hanging off a beam 50' in the air by one *** cheek braced with one hand, cutting with the other. Wheel bound and dug into my bracing hand. Cut the index finger at the middle knuckle and scored the bone. Scar is not visible anymore, but the bone spur is irritating. I've been bit a few times and it ALWAYS sucks. Glad it was just flesh wounds for ya! Saw a previous employer take a 9" to the chest, cut him 1/2" deep about 10" long. Dumbass wouldn't go to the doc and get it stitched, so I cleaned it out for him after he had a few drinks and glued him shut. Saw him a couple months ago and he has one hell of a beauty mark from it. Reply:I usually try to not think. If my mind wanders I forget what Im supposed to be paying attention to and mess up or hurt myself.  Zap, I like to keep 90% alcohol in the garage for wounds. It also dissanfects and cools my homemade cutting fluid. Probly not what you use but it is good for first aid or when you cant use acetone.
